About NMTU
The New Mexico Council of Trout Unlimited was formed in 2001 to better serve all themembers in the state. Prior to this, there was only one active chapter in the state.
One of our objectives is to get more active chapters started, but since we’re all volunteers, it falls on you, New Mexico’s TU members, to step up if you want more active chapters. We really need to revitalize the Rio Grande Chapter in Albuquerque, and to get a chapter started somewhere in the southern part of the state.
A second reason for forming a council, is that neither the Truchas Chapter out of Santa
Fe nor the Enchanted Circle Chapter out of Cimarron can be expected to deal with either state-wide issues, or to work on issues surrounding Gila trout, which are hundreds of miles away.
Finally, having a council has given us a seat at the table in helping to shape the policies
and issues of the national organization. Take a look around the website and see the
types of issues the TU has been able to undertake. Much of this would not have been
possible without a council, including adding an employee here under the Public Lands
Initiative.
I hope as you look around, you are impressed with what we’ve been able to accomplish in a fairly short amount of time and with extremely limited resources, and that you are also inspired to increase your involvement in TU on the local and state level.
